Summer has finally come to Monterey. It's begun to be around 75 and sunny in the afternoons. The mornings are still the same foggy cold, but that's alright. It reminds me of home (SEATTLE!) My garden beds begin to look good, though the back is still a mess. When we moved into this house in March it was obvious that the garden had been ignored for months. In the back we have a large concrete space with small (maybe two foot) beds around the outside edges. Those are still a mess. Only one edge is clear and planted with a few spindly flowers and lots of seeds. (Ari loves planting seeds.) I have some bark to put down in another spot, which is mostly Calla Lilies and rotting old bark. But the rest? Boring expanse of flat without a container in sight and weeds all down the side of the house. It's hard to want to go out there and work, because the girls are tired of my working in the yard and only give me a few minutes at a time. You can't spread bark a few minutes at a time. Ah well, we should be in this house about two and a half to three years, so I guess I've got time. I'm going to write a book. Quick Beds: Gardening for the Renter, Apartment Dweller and Just Plain Lazy. I'm going to make millions.
